The stupid...it burnssss!!!

So it turns out that the "defining moment" in Iraqi political history was just another clusterfuck; something that our occupying Army and politico-military leadership didn't know about, had no hand in planning and are shocked by the results of.

Here's the sentence I enjoyed the most, in a richly sardonic way: "But the Basra offensive has some in the U.S. military fretting that Iraq's forces, while better than they were six months ago, cannot fully defend their communities."

Okay, let me get this straight. The Malikists invaded much of Basra to oust the local Sadrist Shia militia from their "community". The Sadrists defended "their community" and who pretty much fought them to a standstill. And yet we're supposed to believe that this shows that the "Iraqi Army" (i.e. the Badr Corps and Malikist militia) can't "defend their communities"!!??

Words fail me.

The truly sad part is that it is this tidy, American-centric message - not the confused, sectarian, chaotic reality - that will get through to us here in the U.S., demonstrating not that we have wasted three years of blood and treasure to recreate Marvin the ARVN in Iraq; but that we need to continue this wasteage, since our new Marvins are so fucking incompetent.

We. Are. So. Fucked.
